Internships: A Path to Real-World Experience
Internships are important for everyone striving to enter the professional world of IT, gain experience in a real company and learn what the life of a professional working with digital products looks like. It is a time filled with excitement, learning, new ideas, and challenges. At Fourity, we believe that internships should give young people the chance to grow, explore their creativity and preferences, and work on real-life projects.
Simona Đurić came to Fourity eager to learn, but also to demonstrate what she already knew. She is talented, has an eye for important details, a great mind and learns quickly. In this interview, Simona shares her experience of redesigning Fourity’s website, learning new technologies, and developing both professionally and personally during her internship journey.
How did you hear about Fourity?
I heard about Fourity from a friend who has been working at the company for eight years already. As I followed his professional growth and saw how pleased he was with his work environment, I got the impression that it is an agency that provides a great work environment and encourages employees to develop their professional skills. So, I decided to ask for an opportunity to do an internship, and that is how it all began.
How did your internship look? What did you do?
The main focus of the internship was the redesign of Fourity’s website. I started by creating a visual prototype in Figma, and after that was done, I moved on to the complete implementation of the website using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
What was most interesting for you?
The most interesting part for me was the research and design phase. Finding an adequate visual solution, identifying the brand identity, and developing an interactive prototype in Figma were especially engaging. Some technical functionalities were also challenging but interesting, particularly those I had not implemented before, such as the horizontal scroll effect, 3D slider for mobile devices, and accordion component used with scroll.
Have you encountered any new technologies you hadn’t worked with before?
Yes. Besides learning new JavaScript techniques used on the website, I gained a deeper understanding of WordPress. I also had the opportunity to research and learn about new plugins and the ways WordPress adapts to specific work needs.
Who was your mentor? What was it like to collaborate with him or her?
My mentor was Dušan. The collaboration was constructive, and I had opportunities to make design and technical decisions on my own, with his feedback and guidance whenever necessary.
Was it useful for you?
The internship was very useful. It allowed me to apply the theoretical knowledge I gained during my studies to real-life projects. I learned what the complete development process looks like, from the first ideas and design prototypes to functional implementation. Alongside technical skills, I also gained valuable experience in work organization.
Would you recommend the internship at Fourity? How would you summarize your experience at our company?
I would definitely recommend the internship at Fourity to everyone who wants to learn what it is like to work at a professional digital agency. The work environment is encouraging, the team is highly skilled, and there is always a chance to learn something new. I can say that this experience was a period of intensive professional and personal development for me.
